How to Build Trust

This day has been filled with long enriching conversations.  One of those conversations opened the door to a topic I think we all can agree with, one that often has its say below the surface, in that part of our thinking that lies beneath our conscious thoughts.

Trust – our personal world extends only so far.  Today we can have friends and associates, family and mentors who live around the world, but there is still a limit to who we will turn to and who we will trust.

One Hundred or more years ago many grew up in villages, and not that many people traveled even the distance of our current times daily commute.  We knew what was happening in our community, and the others in that community were people we had known for a lifetime.  We had something to base our trust upon.

Today our population is larger, our cities crowded, and our number of interactions are intense with our twitter, facebook, and linkedin communications.  We have our websites and products or services.

Allow me to go back to my earlier conversation with a friend in the real estate business.  “I don’t want to push myself on people”, these are the words that are build on integrity, not wanting to give the impression that the only reason for the contact is to make a sale or gain some other benefit.

On the flip side we have a situation where someone has built up years of experience, and shares those tested resources with both clients and those who are simply seeking an answer right now.   What good do we do for others if we build those resources, then hesitate to let others know those resources exist?

Today it is hard to build trust.  We’ve all heard it, trust is something that is earned, and that takes time and interaction.  I do not believe it is hopeless either.  We can learn to interact with others in a way that truly connects.

Every day I interact with others who conduct themselves with the intent to connect with others by expressing value, and on many days I align myself with others by asking, “Tell me about yourself”, and “How can I help you”.  These are the ways of opening doors we never knew existed, and bring prosperity and opportunity in a way that requires no force.
