Many studies show that getting colleagues together in a team building or reward day will motivate staff, improve relations in a team and create a happier work force, but even though we know the benefits, the task of choosing what to actual do, can put us off. So here is a list of ideas to get you thinking of things your team could do.
First in the round up is the team building stalwart, orienteering. Taking a team into the middle of nowhere and making them find their own way back to base might seem like a terrible idea, but orienteering puts a team in a foreign situation where they have to work together, compromise and make decisions. Splitting into teams, with a prize for the first team back, makes the process more competitive which not only appeals to the competitive team members but also makes the day more entertaining. In this situation you can really be surprised by skills and qualities people have and then this can be applied in the workplace.
If your workforce needs to laugh together more, then nothing will give them a good giggle like taking part in an ‘It’s a knock out’ contest . You could go for a full day tournament with gladiator podium fights, blow up apparatus, water slides and silly costumes, or just choose a couple of activities. Round the day off with a BBQ or buffet and by hometime your team will be best of friends.
If your colleagues fancy a more sophisticated activity, then cocktail making cant come highly enough recommended. Offered by various bars, your group will be able to shake, rattle and roll their own cocktails, learning to make a variety of classic cocktails ( and drink them too!) This informal team building event appeals to both men and women and usually people can get involved as much, or as little, as they like.
Another more high class reward day is a trip to the races. Get your team into their fanciest summer outfits and head over to Chester Racecourse for an afternoon of racing, sunshine and champagne, throw a brief flutter into the mix and your team really will have a fantastic day.
Final choice on the list is a classic Quiz Night. A quiz is something everyone can take part in, and is cheap to organise. You can either pop to your local pub’s night or organise your own in a function room, even making it a themed night.
